Montagu Monuments

The Montagu Monuments is one of the projects the Buccleuch Living Heritage Trust (BLHT) has supported in recent years. Since 2012, we have developed a partnership with the Parochial Church Council of St Edmund’s Church to undertake a Heritage Lottery Funded project to conserve the Monuments using the highest level of care and professional expertise. We have been working to improve access to, and understanding of the monuments, by organising permanent access and learning arrangements for the local community and visitors.

World-class Monuments

In the picturesque village of Warkton, you might not expect to come across a world-class monument in a parish church. Yet at St Edmund’s Church you will find four. Located near Boughton House in Kettering, Northamptonshire, you will find these four hidden gems within this beautiful church. Dedicated to four members of the Montagu family, the monuments are at once beautiful works of art and highly important pieces of Britain’s social and artistic history.

So many stories can be told through the monuments; which will you discover?
