Collection
The Buccleuch Living Heritage Trust is home to one of the world’s greatest private art collections. From paintings by El Greco, Van Dyck and Gainsborough to Mortlake Tapestries and sixteenth century rugs from the Middle East, there are some 500 paintings, 1,000 miniatures and an enormous selection of objects d’art. The vast majority of the collection is divided between three principal locations; Bowhill House, Drumlanrig Castle and Boughton House.
The collection has gradually been brought together over 600 years. It reflects the different interests of members of The Buccleuch family from the fifteenth century through to the present day. Each piece, housed in a home as historic as the art itself, brings history to life and tells a story of its own. And it keeps growing. The present Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry, like his father, continues adding to the collection with contemporary pieces.
You can find out more about the collection using the links below for paintings and music. Please note that this website is still in the early stages of development and we hope to have all fields completed in the coming weeks.
